Amazon Global Selling Kicks Off First “Cross-border E-Commerce Summit” in Vietnam, Attracting 2,000 Sellers

Connect and engage with Vietnamese sellers to help provide knowledge, grow their network and experience base to stay ahead with their cross border business development.

Mark the milestone for Amazon in Vietnam with an MOU being signed with the MOIT.

HO CHI MINH CITY, December 4, 2019 – Amazon Global Selling held its first “Cross-border E-commerce Summit” in Vietnam, with the participation of leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietrade, governmental agencies, strategic partners, and Amazon Global Selling in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. During the event, Amazon Global Selling shared its 2020 strategies in Vietnam and announced MOU with MOIT and cooperations with T&T Group (with the support of SHB Bank) to better assist Vietnamese enterprises explore on-line export in 2020. The summit has gathered around 2,000 attendance across the country.

“Vietnam is a country with good potential for cross-border e-commerce development. It has advantages in manufacturing, as well as many young talents, and a strong online community. Amazon Global Selling is a trusted and thriving channel to connect local sellers. Today’s summit is part of our efforts to help Vietnamese businesses go further in international marketplaces. With Amazon Global Selling team in Vietnam, we will provide localized support to Vietnam selling partners throughout their journey of selling on Amazon.” Said Bernard Tay, Head of Amazon Global Selling South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Country Leader Amazon.sg Seller Services.

2020 Strategic Priorities

Amazon Global Selling shared the 2020 business priorities include:

  • Further enhance awareness of on-line export and expand to more regions. Amazon Global Selling will stage more offline educational workshop and work more closely with partners to drive awareness.
  • Provide more services and tools. Amazon Advertising was introduced in the summit for Vietnam sellers, which can help sellers find, attract, and engage millions of Amazon customers at every stage of their journey. The self-service solutions range from Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display (beta), and Stores. In 2019, Amazon global launched 150 tools and services since the beginning of the year to help independent small and medium-sized businesses grow their sales in Amazon’s stores.
  • New marketplaces expansion. With the launch of Amazon Singapore, there will be one more international marketplace available to Vietnam seller in addition to Amazon.com. This is Amazon’s continued efforts to facilitate Vietnam sellers with more online export opportunities.
  • Build service partner network. Identify and build service partner network to help sellers efficiently explore global opportunities.
  • Strengthening local partner network, both through enhancing existing collaborations and developing new ones.

Another highlight for this summit is the exhibition “One Village One Product”, which demonstrated high quality “made in Vietnam” products such as coffee, tea, textiles, handicrafts, health care, beauty, as well as traditional cultural products such as ao dai, conical hats, and ethnic musical instruments. Among of those products, textile, leather, shoes, handicraft and consumer products were very popular in Amazon marketplaces.

Collaborated Efforts with 3rd party  

The Memorandum of Understanding between MOIT, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Amazon aims to help domestic sellers promote their businesses and export goods to international marketplaces. According to the MOU, Vietrade and Amazon Global Selling will collaborate on the below programs: exporting via e-commerce; build Vietnamese brands on e-commerce with Amazon; develop Vietnamese human resources on e-commerce; modelling store and policy collaboration.

“The cooperative activities with Amazon Global Selling have been very successful. Cross-border e-commerce can bring positive impact on Vietnam’s export economy in general and empower the development of Vietnamese businesses. The implementation of the cooperation agreement will be a solid foundation for longer-term plans between Vietrade and Amazon Global Selling moving forward, ” said Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director General of Vietrade.

In addition, this summit also marks the beginning of a deeper cooperation between Amazon Global Selling and T&T Group, with the support of SHB bank. By sharing knowledge, talents fostering, business networks and digital solutions, the three sides will work with the government to support SMEs in expanding their businesses, thereby promoting the growth of Vietnam’s exports. Previously, T&T Group has collaborated with the MOIT and Amazon Global Selling to organize the contest “Talented cross-border E-commerce Vietnam 2019”, which aims to offer an incubator for the young workforce and empower Vietnamese businesses to further explore cross-border ecommerce.

Aiming at raising the Vietnamese brand name to the international market, supporting businesses and sellers to boost business and exports, Amazon has officially entered the Vietnamese market, cooperated with T&T Group and SHB in promoting e-commerce development

Speaking at the Conference, Chairman Do Quang Hien shared: “T&T Group, SHB, and I, personally, are looking forward to contributing to the boom and aspirations of Vietnam SMEs to reach out to the world ”

Attending the seminar “Reaching out to the big sea”, Ms. Do Thi Hoa – Deputy Director in charge of the Center for Market Research and Development of SHB Business Partners said: “SHB will support businesses and sellers in Vietnam to receive training programs from Amazon and product promotion, brand development, … “

“Our products are mainly rattan, bamboo and handicraft products, they are manufactured with the aim to meet people’s daily needs.  We started selling on Amazon since July 2019 with the support from the collaboration program between Vietrade and Amazon Global Selling.
