SHB named “Vietnam’s best sustainable finance bank” by Global Finance for four years in a row

28-08-2026

As part of the Sustainable Finance Awards 2026, Saigon – Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) has been named “Best Sustainable Finance Bank in Vietnam” by Global Finance, the U.S.-based financial magazine. This marks the fourth consecutive year SHB has been selected for this prestigious award category, reaffirming the Bank’s continued efforts to develop sustainable finance solutions and support Vietnam’s national green growth agenda.

The Sustainable Finance Awards, an annual program organized by Global Finance, recognizes financial institutions at the forefront of developing sustainable finance solutions and providing capital for projects that generate positive environmental and social impact. The awards are evaluated based on objective and independent criteria, including governance strategies and policies, tangible achievements in sustainable finance, innovation, market impact, and measurable outcomes.

Being recognized by Global Finance for four years in a row reflects SHB’s sustained commitment to integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into its business operations, developing green financial products, expanding funding for priority sectors, and supporting businesses in their transition toward more sustainable growth models.

The award also represents recognition from the international financial community of SHB’s long-term strategy, which positions sustainable development as a foundation for enhancing operational efficiency, creating value for customers, shareholders and the community, and contributing to Vietnam’s green growth objectives.

“As a Top 4 private joint stock commercial bank in Vietnam and with our ambition to become ‘a new-generation bank of national significance,’ SHB remains closely aligned with the orientations of the Party, Government policies and national strategies. On this foundation, the bank continues to strengthen its governance capabilities in line with international standards, expand the mobilization and effective allocation of green capital, and support businesses in transforming their growth models, thereby contributing to the realization of Vietnam’s Net Zero commitment,” a representative of SHB shared.

SHB was selected by Global Finance for the “Sustainable Finance Awards” for the fourth consecutive year

In 2025, SHB successfully raised two medium-term syndicated USD loans under ESG criteria, with a combined value of USD 600 million. Both transactions attracted strong interest from the international market, with total commitments exceeding the initial offering size. SHB subsequently exercised the greenshoe option to increase the amount raised, optimizing its funding structure and expanding resources to finance green projects.

The new funding provides SHB with greater capacity to support businesses and projects aligned with green growth and sustainable development. The two transactions attracted participation from a total of 26 international financial institutions and were co-arranged and underwritten by five reputable international Mandated Lead Arrangers and Bookrunners (MLABUs): Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), CTBC Bank, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Mashreq Bank and State Bank of India (SBI). This strong participation reflects SHB’s growing credibility and appeal among international investors and lending institutions, while also highlighting the increasing flow of global capital into ESG-aligned transactions in Vietnam.

Firmly committed to its sustainable development strategy, SHB continues to position itself as an effective bridge for channeling international green capital into Vietnam, supporting businesses in their green transition and helping them use resources more efficiently. Through these efforts, SHB contributes meaningfully to Vietnam’s sustainable development goals and those of the broader international community. Over the years, SHB has successfully partnered with leading international financial institutions, including the World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and International Finance Corporation (IFC), to channel funding toward green projects and key economic segments, including renewable energy, SMEs and women-led businesses.

SHB pioneers the channeling of capital into green and sustainable projects, supporting Vietnam’s Net Zero Goal by 2050

From Hanh Phuc Rice Mill in An Giang to Yang Trung Wind Power Plant in Gia Lai, SHB’s capital is quietly powering a growing number of projects that embody sustainable development. Alongside these flagship projects, SHB is also supporting numerous wind and hydropower projects, as well as green-oriented production and agricultural initiatives across Vietnam.

SHB’s expanding financing portfolio reflects its clear commitment to greening capital flows, directing financial resources toward sectors that create long-term sustainable value and align with Vietnam’s green growth objectives and Net Zero commitment. Today, SHB ranks among Vietnam’s leading private banks in terms of the proportion of green credit in total outstanding loans, reinforcing the banking sector’s role in driving the transition toward a more sustainable economy.

SHB’s efforts have been recognized by a number of prestigious domestic and international organizations through awards and accolades, including Top 10 Outstanding Enterprises with Comprehensive ESG Implementation (Vietnam ESG Awards); “Vietnam’s Most Impactful ESG Bank” (FinanceAsia); “Best Sustainable Finance Bank for SMEs” (Alpha Southeast Asia); and Outstanding ESG Program in Vietnam (The Asian Banker), among others.

By 2030, SHB aims to become the No. 1 bank in operational efficiency, a favorite digital bank, and the best retail bank in Vietnam. The Bank also aspires to be among the leading providers of financing, financial products, and services to strategic corporate customers across ecosystems, supply chains, value chains, and green development initiatives, as well as to SMEs and individual customers. Looking ahead to 2035, SHB strives to become a leading modern, digital, and green bank in the region.

To achieve these goals, SHB is implementing a comprehensive transformation strategy built on four strategic pillars: Customer- and market-centricity; Reform of mechanisms, policies, regulations, and processes; People as the driving force; and IT modernization and digital transformation. Guiding this transformation are SHB’s six core values: Heart – Faith – Trustworthiness – Knowledge – Wisdom – Greater heights.
