SHB reports VND 9.092 trillion in pre-tax profit for the first half of 2026, achieving 51% of full-year target

31-07-2026

At the end of the first six months of 2026, Saigon – Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) recorded pre-tax profit of VND 9.092 trillion, achieving 51% of its full-year target. Alongside continued expansion in business scale, the Bank further improved operational efficiency and maintained effective control over asset quality. SHB’s charter capital increased to VND 53.442 trillion.

SHB announced its financial results for the second quarter and the first half of 2026, delivering positive growth across key performance indicators. Cumulative pre-tax profit reached VND 9.092 trillion, representing 51% of the full-year 2026 target approved by the General Meeting of Shareholders.

This solid performance provides a strong foundation for SHB to proactively steer its business operations in the second half of the year with a focus on sustainable, prudent, and efficient growth, while still keep balance between business expansion, credit quality, and prudential safety ratios.

Strong growth in service income

SHB’s total net operating income reached VND 17.192 trillion in the first six months of 2026, increasing compared with the same period last year. Net service income amounted to VND 3.825 trillion, up 277% year-on-year, extending the strong growth momentum recorded in the first quarter of 2026.

The increase in service income has contributed to a more diversified income structure, reducing the Bank’s reliance on credit activities while enhancing the resilience of its business model amid market fluctuations.

Alongside income growth, operational efficiency continued to be a key highlight. SHB maintained a cost-to-income ratio (CIR) of 16%, an improvement over the same period in 2025, and one of the lowest levels in the banking industry.

This performance reflects the Bank’s continued progress in streamlining operations, digitalizing processes, improving workforce productivity, and optimizing customer service channels. These efforts have enabled SHB to build a more agile operating model, strengthen cost discipline, and support sustainable long-term growth.

Business expansion accompanied by strong asset quality

As of 30 June 2026, SHB’s total assets reached VND 962.667 trillion, up 8% compared with the end of 2025. The Bank continued to move closer to its target of VND 1 quadrillion in total assets, reinforcing its position among the top five largest private commercial banks in Vietnam.

Customer deposits reached VND 687.843 trillion, an increase of 7% from the end of the previous year, providing a solid funding base for the Bank’s business operations and meeting the economy’s demand for credit.

Liquidity ratios were maintained well above the regulatory requirements of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). The liquidity reserve ratio stood at 17.05%, exceeding the minimum requirement of 10%, while the loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR) was 80.6%, remaining below the regulatory ceiling of 85%.

Outstanding credit reached VND 664.280 trillion, up 7.22% compared with the end of 2025. SHB’s credit growth was implemented in a selective manner, focusing on production and business activities, as well as customer segments aligned with the Bank’s strategic development priorities.

Alongside credit expansion, SHB continued to place strong emphasis on maintaining asset quality. As of 30 June 2026, the Bank’s non-performing loan (NPL) ratio, as defined by the SBV, was controlled at 1.76%.

Maintaining sound credit quality while continuing to expand its business scale provides an important foundation for SHB to manage credit risk costs, deliver stable business performance, and strengthen its capacity for sustainable long-term growth.

Strengthening the capital base and enhancing financial capacity

SHB continued to maintain all prudential ratios well above the regulatory requirements. As of 30 June 2026, the Bank’s consolidated capital adequacy ratio (CAR) stood at approximately 12%, exceeding the current regulatory minimum of 8%.

SHB has issued more than 750 million new shares, increasing its charter capital to VND 53.442 trillion. The capital increase further strengthens the Bank’s financial capacity, expands its growth potential, and enhances its ability to meet increasingly stringent capital adequacy requirements. Upon completion of the capital increase procedures, SHB will officially become one of the top four largest private commercial banks in Vietnam by charter capital.

SHB’s capital base continues to be reinforced through strategic initiatives. Following the State Bank of Vietnam’s approval of the change in the legal form of SHBFinance, SHB and Krungsri – a member of Japan’s MUFG Group – are completing the procedures for the transfer of the remaining 50% equity interest in SHBFinance. The transaction is expected to be completed by the middle of the third quarter of 2026. Upon completion, the transaction is expected to further strengthen SHB’s financial resources, deepen its partnership with a leading international strategic partner in retail banking development, and enable the Bank to sharpen its focus on its core banking business and long-term growth priorities.
