In the morning of June 26, the 36th ASEAN Summit held in the form of online meeting opened at the Hanoi International Convention Center. As Chairman of ASEAN 2020, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired the first official Summit of the ASEAN Presidency Year 2020. Saigon – Hanoi Bank (SHB) is delighted and honored to participate in the major event of the country and ASEAN. At the same time, SHB is the only bank to be honored as the special sponsor with the commitment to accompany events and conferences in the ASEAN Presidency Year 2020 with the contribution of VND 10 billion.

At the meeting point of Hanoi, the opening session was attended by Politburo Member and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Politburo Member and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, President of AIPA 41; Politburo Member, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong; Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and about 300 international and domestic guests, more than 200 reporters at home and abroad. Leaders of ASEAN nations attended at the meeting points of each country.

Speaking at the opening session, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that for the first time in more than half a century, the regular ASEAN Summit was held online. The theme “Cohesion and Proactive Adaptation” of ASEAN 2020 is implemented in the context of a volatile regional and international environment. Over 5 years of the Community formation, ASEAN is facing many opportunities and challenges due to global geographic shift as well as the impact of COVID-19.

The Prime Minister stated that the heavy responsibility on the shoulders of the governments of ASEAN member countries and individual leaders in the remaining half of 2020 is to take ASEAN through this difficult period, proving the value and sustainable vitality of a resilient and dynamic Community. On one hand, it is necessary to continue to effectively control the COVID-19 epidemic, on the other hand, it is necessary to soon overcome the consequences of the epidemic, to recover and continue economic development, and at the same time, to make efforts to fulfill the ASEAN cooperation and connection goals in 2020.

At this meeting, the Prime Minister looked forward to the adoption of the “Declaration of Vision of ASEAN Leaders on an ASEAN Community of Cohesion and Proactive Adaptation: Overcoming Challenges, Promoting Growth” and that will be a guideline for ASEAN to be confident in the next step. With the desire to contribute and support the Government in fulfilling the role of Presidency of ASEAN Year 2020 of Vietnam, SHB commits to accompany the ASEAN Presidency Year 2020.
