SHB successfully raised $600 million in ESG-certified funding

22-01-2026

Raising $600 million from foreign markets helps SHB strengthen its medium and long-term foreign currency capital, expand its financing capacity for businesses and projects oriented towards green growth and sustainable development, and contribute to achieving national development goals.

The confidence of leading financial institutions in SHB.

In 2025, SHB successfully raised two consecutive medium-term USD syndicated loans based on ESG (environment, social, governance) criteria, totaling US$600 million. Both transactions received high interest from the international market: the volume of subscriptions exceeded the initial offering limit, allowing SHB to exercise its greenshoe option to optimize its capital structure and meet the financing needs of green projects.

The new capital helps SHB expand its financing capacity for businesses and projects oriented towards green growth and sustainable development.

The series of transactions attracted a total of 26 international financial institutions, reflecting SHB’s attractiveness and credibility among the international investor/lending community, and demonstrating the strong shift of global capital flows into ESG-compliant transactions in Vietnam.

Notably, the 2025 ESG syndicated loan is co-arranged and underwritten by five institutions (MLABU): Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), CTBC Bank, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Mashreq Bank, and State Bank of India (SBI) – all reputable international financial institutions. The fact that these leading institutions are acting as co-arrangers and underwriters demonstrates the high level of confidence these top banks have in the attractiveness of the deal, SHB’s implementation capabilities, and its ability to attract broad participation from international investors.

The success of these syndicated loan transactions is also a result of the well-organized and professional investor outreach (roadshow) activities implemented by SHB in Taiwan (China) and Singapore, contributing to strengthening relationships with existing investors and expanding the network of potential international partners.

Commitment of 100% of funding to ESG projects under the Sustainable Finance Framework.

As per the commitment, all loan capital will be used by SHB to finance ESG projects that meet the criteria of the Sustainable Finance Framework, approaching common standards and principles in the international green and sustainable finance market (ICMA, LMA, IFC, and equivalent practices). Standardizing the Sustainable Finance Framework helps SHB improve consistency in project selection, portfolio management, and enhance its capacity to access sustainable capital flows in the international market.

In the context of international financial institutions increasingly prioritizing capital allocation for sustainable goals, ESG-compliant syndicated loans continue to be a dominant trend in the international capital market. SHB recognizes that successfully raising ESG syndicated loans is not only significant in terms of capital scale but also affirms SHB’s capacity to standardize criteria, enhance transparency, and improve implementation quality – thereby creating a foundation for expanding cooperation, diversifying the investor structure, and arranging transactions to meet SHB’s needs in the future.

SHB was honored among the TOP 10 outstanding companies in comprehensive ESG implementation.

Committed to its sustainable development strategy, SHB continues to position itself as an effective bridge bringing international green capital into Vietnam, accompanying businesses in their green transformation, improving resource efficiency, and promoting sustainable growth, thereby making practical contributions to Vietnam’s sustainable development goals and those of the international community. Over the years, SHB has successfully collaborated with leading global financial institutions such as the World Bank, ADB, and IFC, channeling capital to green projects and various economic sectors such as renewable energy development, SMEs, and women-owned businesses.

By 2035, SHB aims to become a leading modern retail bank, a green bank, and a digital bank in the region. Throughout this journey, SHB places people and corporate culture at the foundation of its strong and comprehensive transformation strategy; uses science and technology and innovation as the driving force for breakthrough leadership; and remains steadfast in its goal of green banking and sustainable development.
